Wesley Chapel

Family friendly area with abundance of shopping, restaurants & entertainment

Welcome to Wesley Chapel

Wesley Chapel area was originally called Double Branch for the area’s twin creeks, the community was named for the Baptist church that stood on the northwest corner of SR 54 and Boyette Road. A popular nickname for the area was “Gatorville.” Since 2000, this area has grown rapidly.   It is part of the Tampa Bay Area metro (approximately 17 miles or 22 minutes).

Back in the mid 1800’s Edward Boyette Sr. and his sons settled on the land known as Double Branch – it was land granted to them during the Armed Occupation Act. As the area became more settled, a Methodist chapel was built, and the area became known as Wesley before becoming Wesley Chapel in 1887.

As in much of the East Pasco area, turpentine stills and lumber were among the first industries of the area. Cattle ranching, hog farming and the citrus industries were also thriving in the early days.

It is interesting to note that the first major road of the area was the Denham-Dade City Road, what today we call State Road 54. It’s nick name was the “813-716-4498” road – why? It is said that the od times said it took two years to build, 2 years to wear out and 20 years to pay for it. Sound familiar?

The area has easy access to upscale shopping and gourmet restaurants at The Shops at Wiregrass or Tampa Premium Outlets, catch a movie at CinéBistro, or spend your day hitting the greens at a nearby golf course. Plus, everyday conveniences like banks, grocery stores, medical facilities including the Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, and some of the top rated schools in Tampa are all only minutes away.
